The All Blacks vs Tonga will play in Hamilton in their lead-up to next year’s Rugby World Cup.
New Zealand Rugby on Sunday announced the fixture – which will be a novel afternoon (2.35pm) kickoff at FMG Stadium Waikato on Saturday, September 7.
It will be the All Blacks’ final hit-out before their World Cup campaign in Japan, and will be the first test in Hamilton since 2016.
Hamilton has already seen a sea of red Tongan support in recent times, with packed crowds during last year’s Rugby League World Cup matches against Samoa and New Zealand.
The match will be the All Blacks’ sixth meeting with Tonga, having won all five previous clashes, with four of those being at World Cups. The most recent matchup was at the 2015 World Cup, where the All Blacks were made to work for a 47-9 win in pool play in Newcastle, England.
Tonga are currently No 12 in the world rankings and have gone winless during their November campaign – losing 49-38 to the French Barbarians in Bordeaux, 74-24 to Wales in Cardiff and 20-9 to Georgia in Tbilisi.
